Olivia's New Bedroom
Olivia's bedroom is the first room of the new house that we have redecorated, and I believe that Joe and his mom Kim (grammy) outdid themselves. When in Iowa City, we knew that her room would be first - she had a broken dresser, a broken bookshelf, a mattress on nothing but a metal frame, and an old worn comforter set. We would ask Olivia what she wanted for her new room, and she would tell us "purple walls, blue sheets, green pillow, and pink bedspread". And she never waivered on that description no matter how many times we would ask her. So, the following pictures are what we developed for her room...
This mirror is a repurposed piece. It used to be window shutters that grammy painted and detailed to match the blocks of color on her wall.
Here is a close up of the color blocks on her wall. These are scattered throughout the room in groups of one, two, or four squares. Grammy hand painted the ticking around the outside and the spirals. They match the squares on the bedspread in both color and pattern. I cannot begin to tell you how long it took Joe and grammy to complete this room - too many hours of meticulous taping, painting, and stenciling. Olivia loves the end result, and so do I. Thank you so much to both Joe and Kim! One room down, how many to go???
