While on our vacation to Atlantis, the family decided to swim with the dolphins. We had never done this activity before, as we had been waiting for the kids to get a bit older, and now seemed like the perfect time. Olivia and Ethan were beyond excited about this, and when the day finally arrived they were ready! This was in the Dolphin Cay (pronounced "key") area of the resort, and was a lovely setting with the dramatic hotel in the background. The first step was to put on the wetsuits, which had everyone laughing, then a short orientation on the dolphins (mainly don't poke their eyes, ears, or blowhole). Then on to the fun!
Our dolphin's name was Tamara, a 27 year old female. First she swam past our group so we could pet her. Next up was an individual smooch/hug photo for everyone - Olivia's favorite. Then we became "trainers" for the afternoon, "teaching" Tamara tricks. I believe that Ethan and Olivia really did think that they were teaching her something brand new - Olivia taught her to spin like a ballerina, and Ethan taught her how to retrieve a ball. Joe and I basically taught her different ways to splash people!
