Olivia's GREAT, GooD, and bad News
In June, we received some GREAT news - Olivia's original tongue twister, "Toothpaste Moose Paste" was to be published in the August 2012 Highlight's Magazine!! Joe and I are beyond proud, and Olivia will now tell everyone that she is a "published author". Highlights receives 35,000 submissions per year, and Olivia was selected!! Of course we bought multiple copies of the Highlights that Olivia then autographed and plans to hand out to family. She especially loves the picture of the moose next to her tongue twister. Look for the August 2012 Highlights in doctors' offices over the next few years ;) (clarification: the article states that she is 6 because that is how old she was when we submitted the article - it took 10 months to publish).
Olivia's GooD news is that she learned how to dive this summer - front dives and back dives. We are very proud of her for learning how to do this at such a young age. She is our little mermaid.
Olivia's bad news - she broke her arm (both the radius and the ulna) on Friday the 13th. She is in a cast until at least August 6. My poor little mermaid is beached for a significant amount of prime swimming time, and she is not happy about it! Although she does like the pink cast as she has decided that pink is her favorite color right now.
No, this is not how she broke her arm. We were hosting a small BBQ, and fifteen minutes into the party she slipped while stepping out of a plastic kiddie pool and landed on her arm at a 90* angle. She ran over to the adults (who had just settled down for some mojitos!) and said that she thought she had dislocated her elbow. We didn't believe her at first, thinking that she had hit her funny bone hard or something! Who breaks an arm in a kiddie pool?? So we explained to her that if she was serious, we would have to take her to get an x-ray, leave the party and leave her friends. She said that she understood and asked when we could leave. Took her to a prompt care and end of story. Thank goodness it was her left (non-dominant) arm!
